Classes Offered at MLDA

Ballet & Pointe (Pre-Pointe)

We offer six levels of ballet technique. Ballet is the foundation of all forms of dance. Ballet is demanding and requires focus from the student,but is truly beneficial and rewarding. In this class, strength,balance and flexibility are developed and enhanced, along with a complete knowledge of ballet terminology. Solid ballet technique is an essential aspect towards a student's progression in other forms of dance and is important for the mental and physical discipline required for proper execution of dance movements. Again, our Teen Beg./Int. levels are designed for students ages 11 & Up that have not taken dance classes or have not taken dance classes in a few years. Solid color leotard, pink tights, ballet slippers and hair secured off the neck, are required for participation.

Combo Classes

These classes are offered for young dancers between the ages of 4-7. Each class is 1 hour in length and works on 2 different forms of dance during the hour. All combo classes have ballet and then are coupled with either tap or jazz.

Creative Movement

This class is an introduction to dance and is intended for pre-schoolers that have not taken dance before. In this class, gross motor and coordination skills are developed. In addition, basic ballet and body awareness skills are taught. The class incorporates fun,enjoyable dance games for a stimulating, well-rounded class. We ask that you please do not bring toys to class.

Hip Hop

One of the popular dance styles today is high energy hip hop. Moves are broken down and then put into combinations across the floor, followed by a routine in the center. This class is inspired by today's latest music and hippest trends.

Hip Hop Sing/Pop Stars

This class combines all the elements of hip hop class with pop singing. Students learn choreography as well as lyrics and sing and dance simultaneously.

Improv

This class focuses on dancing without set choreography. Students work on creating choreography instantly based on the technique and education of dance they have learned in other classes. Dancers must be at least 11 years of age to participate in this class.

Jazz

We offer six levels of jazz technique. Set to uptempo music,basic principles of style and movement are emphasized. Jazz has a strong emphasis on control,style and fluidity of movement. Our Teen Beg./Intermediate levels are specifically designed for students ages 11 & Up that have not taken dance classes before or have not taken dance classes in a few years and are interested in getting back into dance and taking class with other students in their age group.We highly recommend that students continue taking their ballet training while taking jazz.

Lyrical

Set to ballad music, principles of movement are jazz in nature ,while promoting the basic concepts of strong ballet technique,as well. Emotional expression is developed thru lyrical technique.We recommend that students take at least one year of recent ballet training before enrolling in a lyrical technique class.

Musical Theater

This class incorporates strong dance technique for stage, and works on developing stage presence and musical theater acting ability. A great class to further your confidence with dance choreography and showmanship.

Princess Class

Our newest dance class for young dancers incorporates exposure to all their favorite storybook classics. Children learn dance technique and choreography, while enjoying the stories of the fabled princesses and becoming one themselves.

Tap

In this class, rhythm and musicality are developed and enhanced. Tap is excellent for the development of fine motor skills as well as building stamina and cardiovascular conditioning.

Turns

Across the floor technique is taught in this class. This is an excellent class for strengthening solid turning and leaping technique. In an effort to concentrate on fundamental technical skills, no routine is taught in class and there is no specific dance prepared for the recital.
